Hartford, Conn. — Reid and Riege, P.C. is pleased to announce that Casey Weingart has joined the firm as a law clerk in its Multiemployer Benefit Plans Practice Group. Casey will become an associate following his admission to the bar.

Casey assists clients with matters involving multiemployer benefit funds, including fund administration and operations, fiduciary duties and insurance needs, withdrawal liability, health and welfare plans, tax qualification and audits, apprentice and training funds, mergers and consolidations, data privacy and cybersecurity compliance, and dispute resolution and litigation.

Having grown up in a union family, Casey is proud to work closely with union and management trustees, fund administrators, and other fund professionals. He aims to help clients understand the legal requirements governing their benefit funds and support smooth, effective day-to-day administration.

"We are pleased to welcome Casey to Reid and Riege," said Thomas Kasper, President of Reid and Riege, P.C. "His strong academic background, personal connection to the union community, and commitment to serving multiemployer benefit funds make him a valuable addition to the firm. We look forward to supporting his continued growth as he begins his legal career."

While attending the University of Connecticut School of Law, Casey concentrated his studies in labor law and completed a field placement working closely with union leadership. In that role, he helped draft collective bargaining agreements, National Labor Relations Board filings, and legal matters related to union organizing efforts.

Casey earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law and his Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from Marist College. His applications for admission to the Connecticut and Massachusetts bars are pending.

At UConn Law, Casey was recognized as a Thomas J. Staley Scholar and received the Fleming James Jr. Award for his studies in labor law. He also earned CALI Excellence Awards in Civil Procedure, Principles of Insurance, Securities Regulation, and Labor Law: Strikes, Picketing and Boycotts.

Casey served as a managing editor of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal and competed on the UConn Law School Mock Trial Society, representing the school in the Annual San Diego Defense Lawyers competition. He also worked in UConn Law's Tax Clinic, which represents individuals in the greater Hartford area facing significant tax matters involving the Internal Revenue Service and the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services.

Casey will support the firm's Multiemployer Benefit Plans attorneys in helping benefit funds comply with applicable legal requirements and address the operational issues they encounter each day.
